The Importance of Ergonomics

With more people working from home than ever before, creating an ergonomic workspace is crucial for preventing musculoskeletal problems and maintaining productivity.

Essential Ergonomic Setup

Monitor Position

  • Top of screen at or slightly below eye level
  • 20-26 inches away from your face
  • Directly in front of you to avoid neck twisting

Chair and Posture

  • Feet flat on the floor or footrest
  • Knees at 90-degree angle
  • Lower back supported by chair's lumbar support
  • Shoulders relaxed and arms at 90-degree angle

Keyboard and Mouse

  • Wrists in neutral position
  • Elbows close to your body
  • Light touch on keys

Movement is Key

Even with perfect ergonomics, sitting for long periods isn't healthy. Remember to:

  • Take breaks every 30-60 minutes
  • Stand and stretch regularly
  • Do simple desk exercises
  • Walk around during phone calls

Common Signs of Poor Ergonomics

  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Lower back discomfort
  • Wrist pain or numbness
  • Eye strain and headaches
  • Fatigue and decreased productivity
